NEW SIGNALIZED INTERSECTION
 at ROUTE 440 and GOLDSBOROUGH DRIVE

On or about August 23^rd, a new traffic signal will become operational along Route 440 that will change vehicle access to the Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor (PABH or formerly “MOTBY”) and access to the 34^th Street LRT commuter parking. Site traffic will use a new signalized intersection at Goldsborough Drive.  The Goldsborough Drive intersection is located approximately 700 feet to the north of Port Terminal Boulevard. At the same time the signal at Port Terminal Boulevard will be eliminated and the median on Route 440 will be closed.  Motorists will still be able to make a right-turn into and right-turn out of Prospect Avenue to Route 440 southbound; and motorists traveling north on Route 440 will be able to right turn onto Port Terminal Boulevard to access the Peninsula or to make a U-turn to head southbound on Route 440. Traffic will no longer be able to cross Route 440 at Prospect Avenue and Port Terminal Boulevard. These changes will affect traffic patterns in the area in the following ways:

Inbound traffic to the Peninsula from Route 440 southbound will turn left and northbound traffic will turn right at the new intersection. Northbound traffic can also continue to use Port Terminal Boulevard.  Traffic from Avenue E can use 30^th or 32^nd Street and turn left on Route 440 and access the Peninsula via Port Terminal Boulevard or at Goldsborough Drive.

Outbound traffic from the Peninsula will use Goldsborough Drive and turn left to go southbound, or right to go northbound, on Route 440. Traffic destined for Avenue E should turn left at the new traffic light and then turn right at Prospect Avenue and right again at the intersection at 32^nd Street and Prospect Avenue.   These patterns are shown in Exhibit 1.

Route 440 access to the 34^th Street LRT parking lot will also change from commuters approaching from the south or exiting to the north. Commuters traveling north on Route 440 must use the U-turn from Port Terminal Boulevard to Goldsborough Drive and then turn left on Route 440 to access the lot at Prospect Avenue.  Commuters exiting the lot must use 32^nd Street and turn left onto Route 440 at the traffic light.  These travel patterns are shown in Exhibit 2.
